Instructions for Departmental Staff

These instructions are to aid academic departments in submitting applications for Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowships to the Illinois National Resource Centers (NRC) on campus. Questions regarding application procedures and materials can be forwarded to any of the FLAS Coordinators noted below.

Departments are encouraged to set an internal FLAS application deadline to ensure that there is ample time to compile and rank the applications before the application deadline.

FLAS Eligibility

• U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Currently enrolled as a graduate student OR accepted by the department for graduate admission. (If the department desires to use the FLAS fellowship to recruit an incoming student please indicate this clearly on the application cover sheet.)

FLAS Application Submission Instructions

1. Ensure that the student is eligible for a FLAS.
2. FLAS applications must be submitted by THE STUDENT’S academic department to the appropriate Center.
3. Departments submitting more than one application MUST rank the applicants.
4. Applications are due to the Center(s) on 15 February 2008.
5. Submit a complete set of application materials to each Center to which the students is applying.
6. Incomplete applications will not be accepted (please refer to the Check List on the application cover sheet).
7. DO NOT STAPLE: each application should be bound with a clip.
