Charles C. Stewart International Young Humanitarian Award

Nomination Deadline: Nominations for the 2008 award are due by October 17, 2008.

Established in 2005 to recognize the accomplishments of the University’s dedicated young international humanitarians, the award is sponsored by The Associate Provost for International Affairs. The awardee shall: have been a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign within 5 years of his/her nomination; be an individual whose life activities reflect the pragmatism in service to idealism embodied by the educational mission of this land-grant university; have contributed significantly, either as a volunteer or in a professional capacity, to the advancement, education, health & well-being, or security of people in a country other than the United States, or to global human welfare generally; be of such accomplishment that students, alumni, faculty, and staff of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as well as the general public, will be inspired by the recognition of his or her work; and be an individual whose courage and dedication to the welfare of our fellow global citizens exemplifies the highest ideals of selflessness and humanitarian service.

The winner will receive a plaque and a $500 award to be presented at the international awards banquet in spring 2009, sponsored by International Programs and Studies and hosted by the Chancellor’s Office.

Selection Criteria

In order to be eligible for this award, the nominee shall:
  • Have been a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign within 5 years of his/her nomination.
  • Not be a current employee of the University.
  • Be an individual whose life activities reflect the pragmatism in service to idealism embodied by the educational mission of this land-grant university.
  • Have contributed significantly, either as a volunteer or in a professional capacity, to the advancement, education, health & well-being, or security of people in a country other than the United States, or to global human welfare generally.
  • Be of such accomplishment that students, alumni, faculty, and staff of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as well as the general public, will be inspired by the recognition of his or her work.
  • Be an individual whose courage and dedication to the welfare of our fellow global citizens exemplifies the highest ideals of selflessness and humanitarian service.
